GM Authority has learned that the current Theta Premium-based Cadillac SRX will be replaced by an all-new crossover.
While the current SRX is a midsized CUV designed to primarily take on the Lexus RX, the new Alpha-based vehicle will be a compact crossover directly targeting the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLK, Audi Q5, and Infiniti EX.
The current-generation SRX is a great vehicle with even better styling. But its front-wheel drive platform castrates its sporting ability. Now, the current-generation SRX is selling well, but sales still lag behind its most direct competitor. As such, we’d recommend giving Buick — the brand that’s most directly targeting Lexus customers — the current SRX architecture to make a proper RX beater. Call it Envision, if you will. But equip Cadillac with proper rear-wheel drive-based sporty crossovers to take on segment stalwarts from BMW, Benz, Audi, and Infiniti. At the end of the day, it’s BMW that Cadillac has its its cross-hairs.
We just hope that this new Caddy crossover isn’t in place of a wagon variant of the ATS. Additionally, this compact Alpha-based Caddy CUV should be complemented by a midsize version based on the upcoming all-new CTS to truly take on the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz ML, and Infiniti FX, with a Lambda-based crossover and Escalade slotted above it.v
